Google Chrome Window and Tab Shortcuts

  • Ctrl+N = Opens a new Chrome window.
  • Ctrl+T = Opens a new Chrome tab.
  • Ctrl+W = Closes the current tab.
  • Ctrl+Tab = Switch between tabs.
  • Ctrl+Shift+N = Opens new window in privacy mode.
  • Ctrl+Left Mouse Button = If you click on a link with the left mouse button while holding down Ctrl, that link will open in a new tab in the background.
  • Shift+Left Mouse Button = If you click on a link while holding down Shift, it opens the link in an active new window.
  • F5 or Ctrl+R = Reloads the active page.
  • Ctrl+Shift+T = Reopens the previously closed tab.
  • Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+8 = Allows you to navigate between open tabs. For example, in Ctrl+1, the first tab screen opens.
  • Ctrl+9 = If more than 8 tabs are open, it goes to the last open tab.

Chrome Direction and Gesture Shortcuts

  • Space bar = Used to quickly scroll down on the open page.
  • Home = Goes to the top of the page.
  • End = Goes to the bottom of the page.
  • Shift + Mouseball = Used to scroll horizontally if the page supports it.
    Ctrl and +/- or Ctrl + mouse ball = Zoom +/- to the open page.
  • Ctrl+0 = Restores the page to its normal size.
  • Tab, Shift+Tab, Home, End, right arrow key, left arrow key = (Browser forward, back, refresh, homepage keys navigation) Space or Enter key also performs the task of the active key. For example, if you hit the refresh button, the page will be refreshed.

Chrome Developer and Page Code Shortcuts

  • Ctrl+Shift+J = Opens the developer tools.
  • Ctrl+Shift+I = Inspect i.e. opens the Developer options.
  • Ctrl+U = Goes to the source of the open page. (ie encodings)

Other Google Chrome Shortcuts

  • Ctrl+O = Opens the file selection screen. For example, you select an image, the image opens in Chrome.
  • Ctrl+Shift+Left Mouse Click = If you left click on a link while holding down Ctrl and Shift, it will open that link as an active new tab. (Useful for links that open on the same page)
  • Alt+F or Alt+E = Opens the Chrome menu that we opened from the horizontal three-lined button.
  • Ctrl+Shift+B = Toggles the bookmarks bar.
  • Ctrl+H = Opens the Navigation History page.
  • Ctrl+J = Opens the Download History page.
  • Shift+Esc = Opens the Chrome-specific Task Manager screen.
  • Shift+Alt+T = Toggles Chrome browser keys. You can navigate the keys with the following shortcuts.
  • F6 or Shift+F6 = Activates the browser address writing line. If you press the keys one more time it will switch to the bookmarks bar, then to the downloads option.
  • Ctrl+Shift+Delete = Opens the browsing data clear screen. You can clear the history in a jiffy.
  • F1 = Goes to the Google Chrome help page.
  • Ctrl+Shift+M = Switch between browser users. Of course, it won’t work if only one Google account is attached.
  • Ctrl+L or Alt+D = The address in the address line becomes selected.
  • Ctrl+K or Ctrl+E = Adds a question mark to the address line, followed by a word that will be searched in the default search engine.
  • Ctrl + Left direction or Right direction key = They are used to go to the beginning or the end of the address while the address line is selected.
  • Ctrl+P = Sends the open page to the printer.

  • Ctrl+F = Opens the search function to search for words within the site.

  • Alt + Left click = Downloads the content on the link we clicked. (Of course if there is something to download)
  • Ctrl+D = Saves the open page to bookmarks.
  • Ctrl+Shift+D = Saves all open pages to bookmarks in the new folder.
  • F11 = Switch the open page to full screen.

Thus, the above hotkeys only work with Chrome installed on the Windows operating system. Maybe some keys do the same job in other browsers.
