What is a Processor (CPU)?
I’m sure many of you already know what a processor is and what it does. However, there will be those among us who do not know. For this, we wanted to briefly explain what a processor is. It means CPU (Central Process Unit) in English and Central processing unit in Turkish. To be clear, it is the part that interprets and executes all the operations and commands in the computer. As the power of your processor increases, the processing capacity and speed of your computer will also increase.
What is Processor Generation?
Processor generations are the number one ranking of the new models released every year by the manufacturers. Manufacturers have released product lines such as Core i5 and Ryzen 5, but instead of giving a different name every year, they have started to separate the new product they release every year as a generation. The reason why you don’t want to know the generations is that it has become a frequently asked term for computer shoppers or to find out how old a second-hand laptop is. People often use processor generations to find out how new the processor is.
How to Learn Processor Model?
- Press the Win+Pause keys together on the keyboard or press the Win+R keys on the keyboard bit by bit. The Run window will open. Type “ms-settings:about” in the Open section and press the OK Button. tuşlarına bitlikte basın.
- You can also access Computer information by right-clicking the My Computer icon on the desktop and selecting Properties or by following the “Start > Settings > System > About” path.
- When you reach the About computer section, your Processor model is written here. Like the Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10870H
How to Tell the Generation of Intel Processor?
With the 2nd generation of Intel Core processors, the generation system was started. It indicated this with a four or more digit model number. Like i7-10850H for example. The first generation has a three-digit model numbering. Like the i5-650. All three-digit i-series processors are first generation. In the 4 and 5 digit numbers that follow, the first digits indicate the generation of the processor. For example: i7–10850H is a 10th generation processor. The last 3 digits here indicate the model of the processor, and the digits before the 3 digits indicate the generation of the processor. Let’s give another example, for example, the i7–7500U is a 7th generation processor.
How to Tell the Generation of AMD Processor?
It has passed to the generation system with AMD Ryzen series processors. It indicated this with a four or more digit model number. For example Ryzen 7-5800H. In the 4-digit numbers that follow, the first digits indicate the generation of the processor. For example: Ryzen 7–5800H is a 5th generation processor. The last 3 digits here indicate the model of the processor, and the digit before the 3 digits indicates the generation of the processor. Let’s give another example, for example, the Ryzen 5–1600AF is a 1st generation processor.
Another method: looking at the release dates of the processors
One way to find out how old a computer is or how old a processor is is to look up release dates. First of all, you need to learn the exact model of your processor. After you know the processor model you are using from the system properties (for example: Intel Core i5-5257U Release Date), you can find the model by searching on Google from the launch date or production date section of the manufacturer’s site. You can also access all the detailed features of your processor on the same page.
